Go green at your local market

Whenever I move somewhere, one of the first things I spy out is where the local market’s at. There is a couple of reasons to why I prefer shopping at the market rather than going to the supermarket:

  • It’s much cheaper
  • You use less plastic
  • You are supporting families instead of big corporations
  • You are buying locally grown (less transportation = better for the climate)
  • You are more likely to be buying what’s in season
  • It’s usually outside (perfect to absorb some precious vitamin D from the sun)
  • You actually talk and connect with people. Even if they do not have an organic certification, you can ask them about how they grow their produce, what are they using on it and why? Organic food is a big business and getting certified costs a lot of money and is not always an option for everyone.

If you are around the town of Cobano and want to go to the market in the pictures, go early on a thursday. It’s located in the center of the city next to the football field.
