Montezuma beach hike

Written by Kajsa IngelssonJune 29, 2016

I love working out and moving my body. My whole being craves it. Unfortunately I have been injured in my back since the end of last year. Recovery is slow, frustrating and boring, but I know there is a few lessons concealed in this personal tragedy.

Anyhow, this weekend I felt well enough to go on a hike with my beautiful family. And oh my what a hike it was! Its called Montezuma waterfall hike, because as the name implies, the trail takes you to El Chorro waterfall. It’s about a 7km walk to reach El Chorro from Montezuma beach.

We did not go all the way to the waterfall because of my injury, but it was never the less a wonderful hike! It was a very hot day (as always) and we stopped for a dip in the secluded bay on the picture. I felt so serene and close to both the nature surrounding me and the universe inside of myself.

The mix between green, lush nature, white sand beaches and the refreshing ocean makes this one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve ever experienced.

There is only one problem with this picturesque picture. Every once in awhile you will look down in the sand and see stuff that does not belong there. I am of course talking about plastic. It breaks my heart to see this beautiful coastline and its inhabitants being robbed of its health and beauty because of us humans being too lazy to change our ways.

I decided some time ago that I will change my ways. I want to do everything I can to live as environmentally friendly as possible. I invite you to do the same. Let’s start together by taking baby steps!

First step: I promise to bring my own reusable bags when grocery shopping and encourage others to do the same.

Ps. It really helps to keep bags in your car. That way it’s ok if you forget to bring them 🙂
