About two years ago I got injured in my lower back doing yoga. At the time I was living in Los Angeles, the city of the fit, healthy and beautiful and I was training almost as much as a professional athlete. I was all over the place, Pilates, HIIT, hot yoga, running, hiking the mountains, kickboxing… Troubled by my persistent pain I went to see a chiropractor, an acupuncturist, I went and got massages.. Almost everyone told me that I needed to rest. I needed to give my body time to heal. Only problem was, I was hooked on that workout high. There was no way that I was gonna take a break from exercising for more than a week. To be honest, a week already felt like stretching it.
Six months after I started to feel my lower back pinching I found myself as a new resident in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Amazing city, but unfortunately my pain was crippling, making me unable to walk properly. Ok, time to go do a CT scan. I was diagnosed with a muscle inflammation and given some pills to take for three weeks. Three weeks into treatment and my pain was much less intense however not yet gone. On another note, my stomach was severely damaged by the anti inflammatory pills and I was unable to eat anything but bone broth for a month.
Fast-forward until today, 2 continents and six months (or something like that) later. I feel better than I have for a very long time, I can walk, eat and even run again! (I even run faster now than when I was training like a crazy nut!) The road to recovery has not been an easy or straight one, and I have searched high and low for whatever that could help me. So I sort of consider myself a little of an alternative medicine and healing connoisseur by now 😛 I have met some incredible healers throughout my journey, and I want to share the different forms of alternative medicine practices that I found to really be working for me with you.
