Meditation is truly one of the best gifts you can give yourself. It tunes you in higher frequencies with more abundance and expansion. It also creates a bigger awareness, making you less inclined to act on impulses from the ego.
There are several different ways to meditate: guided meditations (I started with guided ones), sitting in silence, meditating on a candle, walking meditations and sitting or laying down tuning in while listening to meditation music.
Weston Brown of Relaxation Daily is the maker of such music. I found it curious to see the process going on within the creation of such, so I decided to hit him up with a little Q&A!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration mainly from nature and other music that I listen to. I love nature and listening to music, so these two things help me come up with new compositions on a weekly basis.
What’s the difference between calm ambiance music and meditation music?
I wouldn’t say there’s too much of a difference between calm ambience and meditation music. Each serves the same purpose, which is to relax the listener into deep states of peace and calm.
How long have making music been your passion?
I’ve been playing piano since I was 13 years old. I’m 30 now, so I guess I’ve been playing piano for 17 years. Wow! How time flies. I started playing music though (trumpet) when I was in Elementary school. I don’t play trumpet anymore, but specifically composition I started doing when I was around 18. I studied composition for many years at the University of Arizona, and went on to study film music at UCLA, where I learned a ton about music production. I am now able to make music in my own home studio with really good quality sound.
Do you put yourself in a meditative state when creating?
Yes, I try to put myself in a meditative state before creating. Sometimes I’ll practice meditation to guided meditations by Jason Stephenson before creating, or just listen to calming nature sounds (shoutout to the Relaxed Guy on YouTube.) I tend to make music on my days off from work, since I have a lot more energy to give to the creative process.
What does meditation mean to you?
Meditation has helped me through stressful times in the past, and it continues to help me feel calm through difficult stressful situations whenever they arrive. Life can get quite stressful as everyone knows, and meditation is a great go to place for calming yourself down.
What do you want to convey with your music?
I want to convey peace and relaxation with my music, as well as beautiful images of nature. I want my music to reach as many people as possible because people deserve to feel relaxed during these stressful times and this stressful year.
Where can we find your tunes and could you share one with us here?
I am on the meditation app Insight Timer. I have over 3500 followers there. You can also listen to my music on YouTube. I also have several albums available on Bandcamp.
What are your top three tips on how to be a green eco-warrior?
I guess my 3 tips would be to remember to throw away your garbage (don’t just toss it on the ground and leave it there), drive less, and recycle if you can.
