I have a hard time not being in despair these days. This summer, over 100 forest fires was raging in the arctic and heat records was being set all over europe. Recently it was the forests fires in Australia and the burning of the Amazon. To top it all of we have “leaders” like Mr. Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro who are claiming climate change is not real..
I recently read a rapport from some climate scientists who are saying that instead of the 12 years (honestly I did not believe that from the beginning anyway but yeah) it was said we had to change our current course before the point of no return, we have 18 months!!
I have been lying awake at night, my eyes filling up with tears and an ache deep into my bones over the 1 million spices that are currently facing extinction due to human activity. I see these animals, flora and fauna and feel their pain as if it were my own. Because in a way, it is. We are all in this together.
I have been scratching my head in shock of how people are continuing like business as usual, having babies, going shopping, buying plastic (this is how much btw) and flying around like it was still 1995.
Look, you are here because you want to do something and take action,
am I right?
OK, that’s what I thought and was hoping for. These are the top 5 things you personally can do today and forever more to stop contributing to this madness;
- Aim towards a vegan lifestyle and a plant-based diet. This will cut your carbon footprint with at least 50%!! (and it will make you so much healthier and kinder btw)
- Travel less and when you do travel, carbon offset that trip!
- Choose renewable energy for your home and business. The easiest way to switch to green energy is to call your current provider and see if they offer an alternative. An increasing number of companies do, harnessing renewable sources like wind and solar power to offer electric service in their markets.
- Consume WAAAAY less. Ask yourself; do I really need this? Will it last? Say a firm no to plastic and fast fashion, as much as you possibly can.
- Stop chewing off more than you can eat! 30% of food is wasted globally across the supply chain, contributing 8 percent of total global greenhouse gas emissions. If food waste were a country, it would come in third after the United States and China in terms of impact on global warming. Check this post out for more information about this loaded subject!
On a side note,
I think self care – meditation – and earthing plays an important role as well. It’s hard to care about our planet when we don’t care about ourselves. Don’t know where to start? Here’s a post I wrote that can help you on your way 🙂
It can be hard to relate to all of this if we have no relation to our planet. Going outside and firmly planting our feet on the grass will root us into the miracle that is our home.
Finally, quieting the ego thru meditation makes us able to realize that we already carry everything we need to thrive within us. We are pure light and love, and no external substances or material possessions will be able to fill the void the absence of that knowing leaves.
We tend only to care for the worlds we feel a part of, yet how can we expect people to care for our natural world if we don’t experience our belonging and kinship with nature?
